CAPSULE MOVIE REVIEWS: 1-3-25
It's the first pair of Film Critic pants for 2025, and yeah, they're a bit tight, thanks to all those holiday treats. But it's time to put them on for another week of film releases. Three new movies are featured in this week's capsule (short) movie reviews for Friday, January 3rd, 2025. 1) NICKEL BOYS Based on Colson Whitehead 's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, this film chronicles the strong friendship between two young African American men who navigate the harrowing trials of

Pro-Wrestlers Turned Actors
It seems like Dwayne Johnson is starring in a new film, appearing in a TV series, or being a significant part of the entertainment landscape every other week. In addition to being everywhere, the guy is one of the most popular, highly paid movie stars on the planet and is known worldwide. Not long ago, he was just a third-generation wrestler known as Rocky Maivia , struggling in the ring and unable to work the mic. It took a lot of work, rebranding (changing his name to T

Film Critic pants are on! Time for some capsule (short) movie reviews, so here are my thoughts on four New Releases for the week of Friday, September 20th, 2024. 1) TRANSFORMERS ONE Taken a few minutes before the press screening of "Transformers One." I would be surprised about two hours later. This is the all-new, fully animated origin story of Optimus Prime and Megatron , the two most popular characters from the "Transformers" universe. I know that they are the two most p

Remembering Charles Cyphers
In a sad, ironic bit of timing on the final day of the Flashback Weekend Horror Convention last Sunday, news spread among convention goers that the terrific character actor Charles Cyphers had passed away at the age of 85. Charles Cyphers, seen here in "Halloween," passed away last weekend. Charles was beloved by horror fans for his great work with director John Carpenter . In addition, Flashback Weekend fans fondly remembered his two memorable visits to the convention, fir

My Top 5 Flashback Weekend Moments
This week I’m dedicating all posts to my favorite event of the year, The Flashback Weekend Horror Convention. Today, I’m focusing on my Top 5 Flashback moments from the past 22 years. 1 ) MEETING & INTERVIEWING JOHN CARPENTER 2012: John Carpenter and me during his Q&A Without question, the highlight of my 22 years as host/moderator at Flashback was in 2012 when my favorite director of all time, John Carpenter , was a special guest. My life changed when I saw "Halloween" in 19
